Hanging Stars

Your light comes from the stars,

Their patterns and constellations-

That beam into the earth

Not from black eyes and faithless mothers.

What was your rising sign the day of the grey bridge?

It doesn’t matter,

She would have left you, anyway

But the smile of the stars kept you safe,

And the large one gave you warmth.

You confide in Moses; he knows your story.

Of a fickle mother leaving her child -

In a river

Under a bridge

So let the universe gather light,

And breathe you in.

Bridges collapse,

And the day fades away

Mother’s move on,

And I still guess your name

Time has passed

The Eternal Stars Hang.
